Women of the Ramayana

It is no surprise that I want my project centered around the fascinating women of India epics. This one caught my eye at first because it would allow me the chance to read about a lot of the amazing females in this culture rather than just one or two. I am interested in the women of the Ramayana because reading about strong females empowers me. As a woman, I am told I cannot do things because I am too weak, or too naive, or too emotional and that simply is not true. I really appreciate learning about other cultures that do not feel this way because it reminds me not everyone thinks this way. I know my project will be centered around women; if I do not find one specific woman I want to dedicate a whole project to, I will pick all of the women of Ramayana in general.
If I do this topic, I will most likely be focusing on goddess like Lakshmi having an entire section dedicated to them.

Evil Women of Ramayana

I think I would love to look at the evil women in particular and dedicate an entire project to the female villains of the Ramayana. If you read my short story, you probably caught on that I not only enjoy learning about powerful females, but I like learning about power, manipulative females who use their supposed weaknesses as ways to stay on top. I think I could definitely complete an entire project on this topic and even take away a lot from it. I know close to nothing about Indian epics let alone specific sections like the evil women so this is definitely a strong contender.

 Reincarnation

I have always been fascinated with the topic of reincarnation. My freshman year of college I realized I was agnostic and ever since then I have been adding bits and pieces of other religions into my own world perspective. I was always fond of reincarnation because I was always fond of the idea of karma. Be a good person now, you'll be born a great person later. I have read about the Native American's version reincarnation so I would love to learn about the Indian version, how they are similar and how they are completely different. If I do this topic, I will definitely include which parts of this ideology I have intertwined with my own unique framework and how everything, to me, comes together.

Supernatural Characters of the Ramayana

Although I do not believe in the Hollywood ghost, I do believe in the super-natural and again, would love to see the way Indians explain the impossible. I like to believe that everything happens for a reason and a lot this comes from the comfort that comes with explaining away things. All I know about the supernatural is what my Catholic mother has taught me growing up. Ghosts, angels, and demons are real, and everything happens under God's plan. I would be super interested in learning about another culture's perspective on the un-explainable phenomenons that happen to us every day.
