Ramayana for Week 3

I have chosen to read Narayana's Ramayana. I love that it is a modern version and written has a novel. I think I'll be able to retain all the stories so much easier if they are combined into one big narrative. I also love reading books on my Kindle and find it extremely easy to high-light and note certain passages. Although I did enjoy Laura's audio, as I test drove the first story, I wasn't able to highlight certain passages or combine story one to story two in my head to form a complete narrative. Therefore, I chose to purchase Narayana's Ramayana, and I am ready to dive in. Overall, I am excited about finally getting the chance to study Indian Epics, and I just know I made the right chose in the first epic for my learning style.

Comic Books

Two comic books really caught my attention: Surya: How the Sun God Was Tamed and Saraswati: Stories of the Goddess of Wisdom. As you can probably tell, I have a very strong interest in gods and goddesses. I especially liked the summaries of these two comic books because the goddesses seem to not only be more powerful than the gods, they are smarter too. Talk about female empowerment!

Video Clips

I enjoyed a handful of the short clips I watched. First, I really enjoyed Ganga-The Goddess and the River, Ma- The Mother Goddess, Femme Fatales- Goddesses of Love, Beauty & Passionand Fascinating Women From Mythology for the same reasons mentioned above. I love seeing how differently other cultures treat women compared to our own, and this culture so far seems to take the cake. I also really enjoyed the clips about death and birth like R.I.P.- The After Life  and  The Source-Who Created the Universe? because I love learning about other perspectives on how the world came to be.
