My storybook is going to be in the perspective of Lakshmi so this was a story I was going to have to become familiar with at some point as it is the story of how she came to be (along with many other figures). I love this story because it is such a beautiful way to "be born" for lack of a better word. She was created from the motions of the ocean. No wonder she is so powerful! As for the actual story, I did not think it was very fair how the gods treated the asuras considering they did help them get what they wanted. I plan on writing a story about the churning of the ocean, but from Lakshmi's perspective. I can write about how she saw a light, and poison, and a snake, and all of the other factors that are included in the story. Since I plan on having my entire book in her perspective, I imagine trying to tell the audience this story from her perspective may be difficult. I may have her explain the story as if Vishnu was the one who told her what had happened since he was there. I definitely liked the comic pages more than the direct translation of the story as I found it much easier to follow. This is definitely the writing style I plan on carrying over into my blog as I think it would be the most entertaining for the audience. I'll have to revisit this comic many times for the first story so I glad I was able to use it from the library reserves. I am debating on mentioned Lakshmi having a soul before this event and the churning brought her soul out to the world or if she completely didn't exist until this. I think that is what I am most confused about in the story. In the comic, it just says she emerged from the churning, but I am curious of where she was before the churning. Obviously, there isn't any literature on this as this is her first appearance, but this may be something I need to come up with in my story. Stay tuned!

  1. Hi Jasmine! I loved reading your ideas, and I will make a point to stop by your storybook to see how it all turns out! I don't remember reading in depth about Lakshmi, but you have piqued my interest. I am particularly curious to see how you decide to write about her beginning. I love the idea that she had a soul, somewhere, and the churning bought it out. If you were curious about where she came from, then others will be as well. Since you speak so highly of the comic books, I will read that as the source of her story, before visiting your storybook. It sounds very exciting!
